About usAre you wondering about us? Let us share a little about ourselves so we can get to know one another. What-About-Lavender is part of the life adventure of Jimmie and Melody Norris. We have a small lavender farm in the mountains of central New Mexico, USA. If you are interested, sit back and I'll tell you our story - or at least give you a few of the hightlights that brought us where we are today. About Us I (Jimmie) am a native New Mexican and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I enjoy being outdoors and this is a great place for outdoor activities. We have all four seasons, but none of them are severe. I have spent the better part of the last two decades working in a high tech industry as an engineer. What I would really like to do is work from home helping my lavender grow. But alas, we are growing into that :-) (more about that later). 
Melody is my lovely wife of 25 years. She schools our four children at home while maintaining a very busy household as she very successfully achieves the status of World's Greatest Wife and Mother. This year she has gotten politically involved as an email distributor of information and staying in contact with our elected officials. I'm still not sure how she does it all.Our Lavender Adventure We initially planted our field of lavender as an investment, hoping for a financial harvest. But as we began to learn about this produce, we got really excited. We knew the lavender smells wonderful and is used to add its scent to many products, but then we bagan to learn about the many other uses. As the parents of four children, we were pleased to find a natural, safe substance that acts as an antibiotic, antiseptic and analgesic. Lavender oil is really amazing. We use it on our six year old son's "growing pains" in his joints at night and it provides immediate relief. Our daughter has had a minor skin condition between her toes for years that required almost daily application of hydrocortisone cream to keep in under control. She tried lavender oil on it and it cleared up in just a few days. When my daughter had a minor cough due to a cold and was having trouble sleeping, we rubbed lavender massage oil on her chest instead of giving her medicine. We were shocked when she immediately went to sleep and didn't cough all night. We began to buy and sell hand made lavender products from the person who sold us our original plants. Our best customers turned out to be family members that already knew the powers of lavender and were pleased with the quality and price of our products compared to what they were already using. My nieces have children with very sensitive skin and the lavender soap with goat's milk is the only product they have found that doesn't cause their children's skin to break out. We now sell our products on the web at www.longbranch-lavender.com . We have recently started cooking with lavender and have enjoyed trying multiple recipes. It adds a unique flavor to many dishes. As you can see, lavender has had a big impact on our lives. I could go on and on but I have probably written too much already. I guess that's one reason I created this website - to share some of what we have learned on our adventure.
